Step 1: Open a profile. Go through your list, find the right person, and open their profile. Click on the "Send a message" button.

Step 2:  Write your message. LinkedIn’s message feature is like email. Write a professional note and hit send.

Step 3: Check your mailbox. All your incoming messages will go to your mailbox. When you get a new message, the mail icon on the top right of your screen will show a red number. As you open messages, the number disappears.

Step 4: Use social media. If you’d rather connect via Twitter, Facebook or private email, check your contact’s profile for other ways to get in touch. Graphic of many diverse hands connecting with words such as connect and follow..

Step 5: Add skills and endorsements. Want to give your contacts a nudge without sending a message? Endorse them for skills at the bottom of their profile.
